We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Physician Associate to join our friendly and supportive GP practice. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our local population.
Working under the supervision of our experienced GPs, you will assess, examine and manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute and long-term conditions within your scope of practice. You will contribute to improving access to primary care, supporting continuity of care and helping patients achieve the best possible health outcomes.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Undertake face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations for patients presenting with undifferentiated and diagnosed conditions within their scope of practice.
- Take comprehensive medical histories and perform clinical examinations.
- Develop differential diagnoses and management plans in collaboration with supervising GPs.
- Request and interpret appropriate investigations in accordance with local policies and supervision arrangements.
- Provide health promotion, preventative care and patient education.
- Participate in chronic disease management and proactive care initiatives.
- Support the management of test results, referrals, follow-up appointments and clinical administration.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, physiotherapists and the wider primary care team.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using the practice clinical system.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
- Assess patients presenting with undifferentiated and diagnosed conditions.
- Undertake face-to-face and telephone consultations.
- Perform physical examinations.

- Interpret investigation results within competence and escalate where appropriate.
- Recognise red flag symptoms and deteriorating patients requiring urgent referral.
- Manage common acute illnesses and minor injuries within agreed clinical protocols.
- Participate in the management of patients with long-term conditions.
- Provide health promotion, disease prevention and lifestyle advice.
- Support proactive care for patients with complex health needs.
- Contribute to home visits where appropriate and agreed locally.
- Ensure patients receive appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Physician Associate Studies (or recognised equivalent).
- Current GMC registration as a Physician Associate, or eligibility to practise in accordance with current UK regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and information governance.
- Previous experience working in general practice or primary care.
- Experience managing patients with acute presentations and long-term conditions.
- Experience using SystmOne.
