As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will use your strong background in building services mechanical engineering and high level of technical expertise to play a key role within the Property and Business Support Department.
As part of the Maintenance and Health and Safety Compliance team, you will deliver a wide range of mechanical engineering and asset management activities. This will include carrying out technical inspections, managing both reactive and planned maintenance and developing effective maintenance strategies and programmes to support the organisation's asset base.
You will plan, manage and monitor project and maintenance budgets, working collaboratively with in-house teams and external partners to ensure effective, efficient and successful delivery of services and projects. Acting as the principal designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations for projects, you will review contractors' health and safety risk assessments and method statements.
It will be your responsibility to administer service contracts, ensuring that contracts, planned maintenance schedules and programmes are kept up-to-date. You will also oversee service contractors, regularly monitoring contract performance against standards and performance measures.
Providing technical leadership and advice, you will foster a collaborative team environment, support professional development and ensure that all work is delivered safely, effectively and to a high technical standard. By undertaking inspections and condition assessments of mechanical assets, you will contribute to the development of forward maintenance plans.
We are looking for someone who holds a degree or postgraduate qualification related to mechanical services engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification. You will demonstrate the ability to develop effective technical solutions to complex problems, supported by extensive technical knowledge and engineering experience. You will also have experience of planning and progressing work activities within established professional guidelines or organisational policies.
It is key that you are confident in analysing, reporting and presenting information to both technical and non-technical audiences, with a proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget and to agreed deadlines. Given the nature of the role, you must be able to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders and be capable of coordinating and influencing the work of project teams.
You will have strong IT skills, including experience using relevant design and planned preventative maintenance software packages. Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is desirable but not essential.
You will be expected to travel throughout the authority so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. This is a hybrid post, with a mixture of working at our office in Yate and working from home. You will be expected to attend the office regularly, including for team meetings.
