Additionally, you will provide advice and supervision to the Valuer and Assistant Valuer.

Managing the council’s land and property estate, you will negotiate leases, licenses and rent reviews, monitor debt and secure and monitor empty properties. Providing professional advice, support and guidance to colleagues, you will ensure that performance objectives are achieved, teamwork is effective and technical work is carried out satisfactorily. It will be your responsibility to negotiate terms and charges with statutory authorities and other bodies for easements, wayleaves, licences and rights of way affecting land in the ownership of the council. Marketing and negotiating the sale or lease of council properties, you will oversee and organise projects, making sure these are within budget to achieve council targets. Consulting on issues with wider implications, you will ensure all activity aligns with service regulations and codes of practice. You will develop innovative solutions to technical issues, making sure these are appropriately proposed and implemented successfully. Representing the council as an advocate, it will be key for you to prepare and present reports, including a clear summary of any issues and implications.

We require you to hold a degree in estate management or equivalent, alongside a membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors general practice division. It is essential that you have post qualification experience working in a commercial organisation, ideally within a local authority. Given the elements of the role, you must have relevant practical experience of planning and progressing work activities within general professional guidelines, demonstrating proven management acumen and motivating staff to achieve organisational objectives and successful technical outcomes.
