How You’ll Make a Difference

As an Operational Support Assistant, you will support all aspects of the day-to-day running of our meals service. You will play a key role in providing a professional and approachable point of contact for our customer and staff queries.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Acting as a focal point of contact for community meals, you will handle day‑to‑day enquiries and process new service‑user requests.
  • You will be responsible for updating team members on operational and procedural changes.
  • When appropriate, you will liaise directly with social workers and relatives of service users.
  • Recording information accurately using South Gloucestershire systems linked with adult social care, you will assist with maintaining customer information and records, adhering to GDPR at all times.
  • You will be predominantly office‑based; however, there will be occasions where you will support the service by delivering meals within the community, supporting in the kitchen, or attending emergency calls from a team member.

What We Need From You

  • You must hold or be willing to obtain an NVQ Level 2 in business support, catering or equivalent, and possess a Food Hygiene Certificate (training will be provided if required).
  • Previous office and catering experience with strong customer‑service skills is essential.
  • Good IT skills and experience of maintaining data records accurately are required.
  • You will be able to work efficiently and at a sustained pace.

What You Need To Know

  • Community meals is a year‑round service, including Christmas and Bank holidays.
  • You will be based out of the council offices at Badminton Road, Yate, BS37 5AF.
  • This is a part‑time role with a rolling 5‑on‑5‑off shift pattern, including weekend working. Your salary is pro‑rata to hours worked.
  • Shift pattern will be 8.30am – 2.30pm.
  • Sunday enhancement allowance (time & half).
  • Your uniform and equipment will be provided.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this post.
  • You will travel throughout the authority and surrounding area, so a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or an alternative means of travel is mandatory.
