How You'll Make a Difference

As an Occupational Therapist, you will enable people to recognise their strengths and abilities, working in an enabling way to ensure independence is maximised. Working closely with assessing practitioners, providers, hospitals and community health partners, you'll promote the best outcomes for people following a hospital admission. The work is fast paced and success in this role depends on working efficiently under pressure, responding to shifting priorities and maintaining a flexible approach.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Complete occupational therapy assessments in multiple settings across South Gloucestershire.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with service users, their families and formal carers.
  • Carry out manual handling risk assessments, including considerations for single‑handed care, and develop tailored manual handling plans to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Support the wider team to be effective in their interventions using task analysis, provision of equipment, assistive technologies, home environment assessments and minor housing adaptations.
  • Make recommendations for a significant budget spend, ensuring maximum value from resources deployed.
  • Manage a caseload with regular supervision and support, working alongside colleagues in a strength‑based approach aligned to the Three Conversations model.
  • Advise and inform individuals and carers about available services, including those under the Care Act.

As an Advanced Occupational Therapist

  • Support students on placement as an experience practitioner.
  • Stay fully up to date with core training expectations.
  • Use research and evidence‑based resources to enhance practice and share learning with the team.

What We Need From You

  • Professional occupational therapy qualification (Dip COT, BSc Honours OT or equivalent) and registration with the Health Professionals Council.
  • Relevant experience of working in a hospital, community, voluntary or agency setting providing occupational therapy services.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation relevant to social services occupational therapy.
  • Experience managing complex cases and excellent assessment skills.
  • Excellent time‑management to meet service requirements.

Advanced Occupational Therapist Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience.
  • Evidence of meeting the essential criteria for the Advanced Occupational Therapist role at South Gloucestershire Council.
  • Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
