As a Community Learning Tutor, you will play a vital role within the local community, supporting adults to develop their skills and knowledge and gain recognised qualifications. You will encourage learners to play an active part in their programme planning and reach their personal and professional goals.

We are specifically looking for tutors who can deliver the following:

  • Functional Skills - English or maths (up to and including Level 2)
  • IT and Digital Skills courses

It will be your responsibility to plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans for your relevant subject area. You will ensure records are kept up to date and work is assessed appropriately. Liaising with our community learning development workers, you will take part in professional development activities, including training sessions and support meetings. Through a wide range of teaching methods and behaviour management strategies, you will maximise learning and engagement in your classes.

Using your expert knowledge and experience, you will provide information and guidance to learners and signpost them to other resources.

We require you to have English and maths GCSEs (grade A-C/ 5-9) or an equivalent qualification. You must have a recognised teaching qualification at level 3 or above or be willing to complete this within 12 months of starting your role. It is essential that you have relevant experience of tutoring, training or teaching practice, including producing schemes of work and lesson plans appropriate to people aged 19+ with qualifications below level 2. You must have strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, together with a proven ability to motivate, inspire and challenge learners to reach their full potential.

Development work and training will be paid at £13.02 per hour. Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy and you can claim back mileage expenses.

We are holding an information workshop on Tuesday 19th May from 4pm to 6pm at Badminton Road offices, Yate. As we have a number of positions to fill, interviews will be held regularly over May (after the 19th), June and July 2026.
