As a Community Learning Tutor, you will play a vital role within the local community, supporting adults to develop their skills and knowledge and gain recognised qualifications. You will encourage learners to play an active part in their programme planning and reach their personal and professional goals.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans for your relevant subject area.
  • Ensure records are kept up to date and work is assessed appropriately.
  • Liaise with community learning development workers and take part in professional development activities, including training sessions and support meetings.
  • Maximise learning and engagement in your classes through a wide range of teaching methods and behaviour management strategies.
  • Provide information and guidance to learners and signpost them to other resources.

What We Need From You

  • English and maths GCSEs (grade A-C/5-9) or an equivalent qualification.
  • A recognised teaching qualification at level 3 or above or willingness to complete this within 12 months of starting your role.
  • Relevant experience of tutoring, training or teaching practice, including producing schemes of work and lesson plans appropriate to people aged 19+ with qualifications below level 2.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to motivate, inspire and challenge learners to reach their full potential.

What You Need To Know

  • Development work and training will be paid at £13.02 per hour.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.
  • Travel throughout the authority and surrounding area is expected; a full, valid driving licence and regular access to a vehicle, or an alternative means of travel, is required.
  • Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy and you can claim back mileage expenses.
