As a Casual Care Responder, you will work directly within the community, delivering both planned and emergency care visits to individuals in their own homes. The Rapid Response Service plays a vital role in helping people maintain their independence, supporting them to remain safe at home while reducing the need for hospital admissions. It also provides essential support to residents of South Gloucestershire who use pendant alarms, offering timely assistance during times of crisis.
Working with residents in their own home following a crisis, your role will focus on improving their quality of life, promoting independence and ensuring they remain safe at home. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of each visit, in line with council policies and guidelines. As part of the service, you will have access to a rapid response 4x4 vehicle and will often be first on scene, attending calls following falls triggered by pendant alarms. You will support residents to get up safely using specialist equipment, such as a Raizer chair. Working closely with practitioners, you will implement agreed care and support plans, report any changes in need and raise concerns in line with safeguarding procedures to ensure the protection of vulnerable individuals. You will deliver care and support to individuals experiencing a crisis, which may arise from ill health, reduced mobility or where a primary carer is temporarily unable to provide support.
We require you to be able to demonstrate sensitivity, empathy and understanding when supporting individuals with a range of physical and emotional needs. At times, you need to manage challenging situations or behaviours, both in the home and within the community, so a flexible, calm and adaptable approach is essential. Due to the nature of the role, you must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. You must be able to work under pressure and remain calm when responding to crisis situations. Whilst not essential, previous experience within the care sector would be beneficial, along with an understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Care Act 2014. You may hold a relevant vocational qualification, such as a QCF or NVQ Level 2 or a CQC Care Certificate. If successful, you will be required to complete the CQC Care Certificate if you do not already hold this.
We offer a response service of 7 days a week between the hours of 7.00am – 10.15pm. This is a casual contract, working ad hoc hours per week. Your salary is pro-rata to hours worked. Your uniform and equipment will be provided. You will be predominantly working out of our office in Yate and in and around the community. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy. You can claim back mileage expenses. Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
