As Team Leader, you will be a key figure in overseeing the day‑to‑day tasks of the team, ensuring the site operates in a fully compliant manner and for the health and safety of colleagues and all site users. Working at household waste recycling centres at Little Stoke, Yate or Thornbury, you will assist members of the public whilst promoting a new culture of recycling and diversion of waste from landfill.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading a small staff team, you will allocate work, maintain shift logs and staff allocations, making sure that team members have clear instructions to provide effective services and that waste acceptance procedures are followed on site.
  • Reporting to the Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the site is fully compliant with legal duties in respect of health and safety and will report any faults and breakdown as necessary, making sure that safe systems of working are followed, risk assessments are undertaken, regulations are enforced and relevant data is recorded.
  • Conducting inspections of site equipment, plant and infrastructure, ensuring that equipment within the area is used and maintained in a safe manner, reporting all defects.
  • Assisting with the traffic management on the site, including members of the public and vehicles entering and exiting the site when removing or exchanging waste containers.
  • Completing work‑related administrative tasks, including accurate maintenance of databases and records, such as stock control.

What we need from you:

  • You must hold, or be willing to work towards, an IOSH qualification, or other relevant safety qualification, which will be refreshed every 3 years.
  • It is essential that you have experience of leading a staff team and have experience of ensuring an operation runs effectively.
  • We require you to be trained, or hold mobile plant licenses, and be able to advise and guide operatives about using plant.
  • You must be able to complete administrative reporting in an accurate and timely manner, have good numeracy skills and a working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office.
  • You must have experience of supervising a team, issuing tasks and providing feedback to individuals on their performance in a constructive way, able to prioritise, plan, monitor and evaluate work to meet standards, targets and deadlines.
  • Having experience within a public facing working environment, it is essential that you can deliver a good customer experience for our site users.

  • You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence.
