In this senior public health role, you will lead and shape one of the Councils Public Health programme areas, driving action to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for local communities. You will lead strategy, commissioning and service delivery across complex systems, working in partnership to create lasting impact. As part of the Public Health Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the Divisions ways of working as well as overseeing multidisciplinary teams and services to ensure high-quality, effective delivery.
By influencing Council policy and decision-making and providing expert advice to senior leaders and Members, you will make a difference by ensuring effective delivery through resource management, commissioning and partnership working across complex systems. What you will be doing:
- Provide expert public health advice to senior managers and elected members to embed a public health approach within council policies and decision making.
- Lead an agreed public health programme area, shape strategy and drive delivery to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.
- Lead and manage staff, budgets and resources within the relevant service area to achieve value for money and delivery of agreed public health outcomes.
- Build and persuade partnerships across statutory, voluntary and commercial organisations to ensure coordinated services and maximise population health impact.
- Monitor performance and report outcomes to senior leadership and members to support assurance, accountability and continuous improvement.
What we need from you:
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Public Health (or an equivalent field), or possess senior-level public health experience, or have equivalent experience in commissioning or delivering services.
- Ability to operate strategically to solve problems, influence decisions and lead within a complex multi-agency system.
- Proven leadership and management experience to lead, motivate and develop teams to deliver improved population health outcomes and reduce inequalities.
- Experience of leading strategies, programmes or projects and delivering measurable outcomes.
- Support evidence-informed decision-making within partnership or system environments.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
What you need to know:
This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Yate, Badminton Road and from home. All applications will be initially reviewed and if you are shortlisted, you will be invited to complete a psychometric assessment. The assessment will need to be completed before you attend your interview. Interviews will be held on 5th August 2026.
