As a Social Work Assistant, you will be part of a new, dedicated team that supports children and their parents who have experienced domestic abuse. We have two part-time roles available to deliver one-to-one and group work with children and young people.
You will be offered training in the ‘Healing Together’ programme which will give you tools and resources to deliver a structured therapeutic intervention programme suitable for children and their families.
What you will be doing:
- Organising and delivering structured group workshops and sessions for children affected by domestic abuse, focusing on shared experiences, emotional understanding, resilience building and recovery.
- Planning and providing one-to-one sessions with children to explore their lived experiences, support their emotional processing and develop personalised safety plans.
- Supporting parents/carers to understand the impact of domestic abuse on their child and engage them in the recovery process where appropriate.
- Planning interventions, attending review meetings, preparing and sharing reports, and representing young people or the team/service at various meetings relevant to the families you are working with.
- Visiting children in a range of settings such as their home, school or agreed safe space to develop positive relationships and gain an understanding of the child’s lived experiences.
- Reviewing plans created by social workers to ensure they produce good outcomes for children and families.
- Signposting and supporting children and their families to universal and other services once the intervention has ended.
- Gathering and sharing information to inform reviews, assessments and plans for children and families open to the team, ensuring that the needs, voice and views of the child remain central to all we do.
What we need from you:
- It is essential that you are qualified to NVQ level 3 or equivalent, or working towards an appropriate qualification related to the provision of services to children and young people.
- You will have experience of working in a statutory setting with children, young people and families, specifically where domestic abuse was a factor.
- You must have an awareness and experience of risk assessment whilst preparing for and performing a task, and the ability to take appropriate action if risks are identified.
- Experience/knowledge of relevant childcare legislation such as child protection, regulations and codes of practice and processes and procedures is essential.
What you need to know:
- You will be working 3 or 4 days per week for a limited term, ending 31st March 2027. Salary will be pro rata to hours worked.
- Due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
- You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area, so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. Business insurance will need to be added to your current car insurance policy.
- Interviews will be held week commencing 6th April 2026.
