As a Senior Development Surveyor, you will review council-owned assets and identify opportunities to support future development across South Gloucestershire. Managing a diverse portfolio of development projects, you will provide expert advice on asset promotion, acquisitions and disposals, with a focus on maximising commercial return and achieving best value in all property transactions. We are committed to using our land and property assets to increase commercial income, supported by £50m of approved investment to drive development and deliver place-shaping ambitions across the district.

You will be responsible for overseeing projects and work programmes, reviewing system improvements and using your technical expertise to ensure schemes are delivered effectively. Supporting the appointment of consultants, you will work closely with the Procurement team to progress and implement development proposals, while negotiating commercial terms for property-related agreements. Providing day-to-day advice on local government regulations, codes of practice, risks and emerging developments, you will help ensure compliance and informed decision-making. It will be your responsibility to manage and report on capital expenditure in line with programme budgets, preparing and presenting reports that clearly outline key issues, implications and compliance with council guidelines.

It is essential that you are professionally qualified with a degree in estate management or an equivalent field, or hold a postgraduate qualification or have relevant experience within a commercial organisation or local authority. You will bring proven practical experience and a strong knowledge of the marketing, disposal and acquisition of land and buildings, alongside a solid understanding of planning procedures and service specific and professional issues. It will be key for you to have the ability to deliver work within professional guidelines and organisational policies. Strong IT skills are essential, as you will need to be proficient in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and in-house systems. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate excellent influencing and negotiation skills, enabling you to secure positive outcomes, meet commercial and contractual deadlines and successfully deliver projects. You must have the financial knowledge or training required to manage budgets effectively.

This is a hybrid role, meaning that you can work remotely or in our offices. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
