We have a number of Planning Officer opportunities working within the development management team, where you will be dealing with minor planning applications and queries to help South Gloucestershire be a great place to live and work.
Our Strategic Planning and Housing Division brings together planning policy, development management and housing, to deliver economic and sustainable development within the council’s core strategy.
What You Will Be Doing
- You will play an important role by supporting the development management team to examine, process and evaluate planning and related applications.
- Undertaking site inspections and negotiations, you will prepare reports for committee.
- You will be required to prepare written appeal statements and present evidence at hearings for court proceedings when required.
- Day to day, you will plan and manage a caseload effectively and with limited supervision.
- It will be your responsibility to deal with general enquiries including pre-application advice in an efficient and courteous manner.
- Regularly, you will assist in the formulation of planning policies and related documents.
What We Need From You
- It is essential that you have a degree relevant to town and country planning, or equivalent qualification, or equivalent relevant experience in a planning related job role.
- You will have relevant practical work experience; backed by evidence of planning specialist knowledge.
- We require you to be able to prioritise your workload efficiently, with competing deadlines and incoming queries.
- You need to have knowledge in the use of planning software packages including in-house systems such as Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
- It is desirable that you have knowledge of planning legislation and current national and local issues facing planning.
What You Need To Know
- You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
- If you use your own vehicle for council work, business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy.
- This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Yate and working from home. You will be expected to attend the office regularly, including for team meetings.
