How You\βll Make a Difference
Working as an Occupational Therapist within the South Gloucestershire Reablement Service, you will enable people to recognise their strengths and abilities, with an emphasis on people setting their own goals. As part of the team, you will work closely with assessing practitioners and the reablement providers to ensure independence is maximised for the individuals we work with.
What You Will Be Doing
- Daily, your duties and responsibilities will include considering referrals to the Reablement Service and working with practitioners to ensure sufficient information has been provided and to encourage an approach that prevents, delays or minimises the need for longer term care.
- Where appropriate, you\\\βll consider ways to support the reablement workers to be effective in their interventions including using task analysis, different techniques and the provision of equipment, assistive technologies and housing adaptations.
- Having your own caseload, you will have support and regular supervision, and work alongside colleagues in the locality teams to support their reablement referrals. You will advise on ways of enhancing reablement outcomes and training or signposting.
- You will advise and inform individuals and their carers about services available, including those available under the Care Act. You will work within the 3 Conversations Model, utilising a strength based approach.
- It will be your responsibility to make important recommendations for a significant budget spend, ensuring maximum value is delivered for the resources deployed.
- As an Advanced Occupational Therapist, you will be required to:
- support students on placement as an experience practitioner.
- be fully up to date with the core training expectations as an Advanced Occupational Therapist.
- provide examples of using research and evidence-based resources to enhance practice and share learning with team (e.g. use of Research in Practice / other online resources).
What We Need From You
- It is essential that you have a professional occupational therapy qualification, Dip COT, BSc Honours OT, (or equivalent), and can demonstrate current state registration and be registered with the Health Professionals Council.
- You will be able to demonstrate how your experience of working in a hospital, community setting, voluntary or agency providing occupational therapy services, is relevant to this post.
- Given the nature of this position, you should be up to date with sound knowledge of all related legislation relevant to social services and occupational therapy.
- We require you to be a problem solver, confident about managing complex cases and demonstrate that you can apply excellent assessment skills in practice.
- You must be excellent at time management so that you are able to work efficiently to meet the service requirements.
- You must be a skilled communicator, including liaising and working with contacts from different sectors, including health and voluntary.
- Additionally, As An Advanced Occupational Therapist
- We will require you to have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
- You will have evidence of meeting the essential (and desirable where possible) criteria for the role of Advanced Occupational Therapist or in South Gloucestershire council.
- A clear commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

- To be considered for the Advanced Occupational Therapy position, your evidence must be clearly detailed in your application. The salary is offered at points within these bands depending on experience:

- Social worker: Β£37,280 β Β£39,152
- Advanced Social worker: Β£40,777 β Β£44,075
- You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so must have a full valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have alternative appropriate means of travel.
- Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
