The HomeChoice service provides a high quality, comprehensive housing access service for households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Good housing can help to stabilise communities, reduce inequalities, improve safety and help reduce crime.
As a Housing Business Administrator Apprentice, you will support the maintenance of the council's Housing Register, provide high-quality administrative and customer service support, and contribute to homelessness prevention outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Work with experienced staff to understand the roles within the Housing team; collaborate with partners to support residents, professionals and agencies on queries relating to the Housing Register.
- Act as a first point of contact for customers, colleagues and partners, handling enquiries sensitively via telephone, email and face-to-face channels; provide administrative support to managers and the team, including minute-taking for key meetings.
- Liaise with customers and agencies, identify special circumstances, and make referrals to access specialist advice or support services.
- Learn to research and collate information, maintain and update records, analyse data from computer systems, and ensure accurate statements and outputs.
- Process and assess new applications to the Housing Register, operate the annual review of applications and explain available housing options to applicants while adhering to service standards, policies and procedures.
What We Need From You:
- You will ideally hold a minimum of GCSE A*-C/4-9 or an equivalent qualification in English and maths.
- Good IT skills in Microsoft packages (Office, Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Drive and willingness to learn, with commitment to gaining a qualification.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to handle channels such as telephone, email and face to face.
- Ideally, experience of basic financial procedures (petty cash, invoicing, etc.).
What You Need To Know:
- All candidates reaching the interview stage will be required to provide a 10-minute presentation as part of the recruitment process.
- Interviews to be held week beginning 2nd March 2026.
- During the 18-month apprenticeship, you will have a workplace mentor and complete Level 3 Business Administration with weekly day release learning at SGS College, Filton Avenue, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7AT.
- This is an 18-month limited term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship programme.
- The salary is set at the current National Minimum Wage.
Age & Salary:
- 21+ (£12.21/hour, £23,492/year);
- 18-20 (£10.00/hour, £19,240/year);
- 16-17 (£7.55/hour, £14,526/year).
