Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home provides a safe, nurturing environment where young people can benefit from high-quality care, education and opportunities to develop vocational and essential life skills. As a Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Instructor, you will work closely with our Education team to create, source and deliver engaging lessons. You will support young people in navigating their current circumstances while equipping them with the knowledge, confidence and skills needed for a positive future beyond Vinney Green.

What you will be doing:

  • Design and implement an engaging, relevant subject curriculum, including schemes of work, and deliver lessons for up to 24 children and young people in groups of 2–4.
  • Assess, monitor and record the progress and achievements of assigned pupils, reporting information back to the Head or Deputy Head of Education.
  • Ensure that pupils’ work is marked and up-to-date with clear feedback provided to support their progress.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with our children and young people, many of whom have experienced complex trauma, and support the development of their social skills, confidence and self‑esteem.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including behaviour management records and daily logs for each young person.

What we need from you:

  • Hold a GCSE in English and maths (grade 4 or above) or an equivalent qualification relevant to working with children and young people.
  • Have considerable experience of working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Have good interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively de‑escalate conflict and communicate concerns to relevant managers.
  • Although not essential, have a teaching and/or training qualification or experience with young people aged 11‑18.
  • It would be beneficial to have experience in a specialist setting, e.g., SEND provision in a mainstream school, a special school or specialist unit, particularly with pupils who present with SEMH needs.

What you need to know:

  • This is a limited‑term contract ending 31 August 2027.
  • Employment requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • The salary is plus a secure unit allowance of £2,903.04 per annum, pro‑rated to hours worked and enhancements for Sunday and Bank Holiday working.
  • Young people can present physically threatening behaviour, and the environment can become tense and anxiety‑provoking; surveillance cameras are in use in most areas of the building.
  • Vinney Green operates a full non‑smoking environment.
  • Staff must leave personal belongings in a provided locker upon entering the building and may be required to undertake a further physical fitness check.
  • This role is demanding and physically active; however, it will be one of the most rewarding jobs you will ever do.

Interviews will be held week commencing 20th July 2026.
