As a School Crossing Patrol, your role is key in providing a safe road crossing service for children and adults. Working one hour per day, you will ensure the safety and orderliness of pedestrians approaching or waiting at the crossing point and crossing the road.

What you will be doing

  • You will provide safe road crossing services for children and adults at fixed sites, helping to ensure their safety.
  • It will be key for you to build and maintain strong relations with pupils, parents and staff.
  • It will be your responsibility to report any problems, hazards or incidents to the Lead Road Safety Officer.
  • Working with a range of basic equipment to complete tasks, you will check stock to ensure that materials which are necessary to do the job are available and report any defects.

What we need from you

  • We require you to have some practical skills in order to facilitate safe road crossing and be willing to undertake basic training.
  • You will have the ability to learn how to use tools and equipment (e.g. use of a prescribed road safety sign).
  • It is essential that you are willing and able to follow road safety procedures to ensure the job is carried out safely.

What you need to know

  • This post is term time, working Monday to Friday and 30mins in the morning and 30mins in the afternoon.
  • Your salary will be pro rata to hours worked.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
  • There are multiple posts available for this role across various locations of South Gloucestershire, please indicate on your application the school you are interested in: Almondsbury, Barrs Court, The Tynings, Frampton Cotterell, Christchurch, Downend, St Johns Mead, Elm Park, Charltonwood.
  • Interviews will be carried out regularly over April, May and June 2026.
