South Essex College is seeking a motivated and dedicated Lecturer to join our Foundation and Supported Learning team. The role involves supporting a diverse group of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to build confidence, life and digital skills, and to prepare for adulthood, employment or independent living.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality teaching and learning to students in Entry Level to Level 1 programmes within Foundation and Supported Learning.
- Support students to develop employability skills, independence, communication, social interaction and preparation for adulthood.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that incorporate functional skills, digital literacy and vocational learning opportunities.
- Develop and implement inclusive teaching strategies and differentiated learning materials tailored to individual learning needs.
- Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, confidence and personal development, enabling progression into further education, supported internships, employment or independent living pathways.
- Foster an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, achievement and independence.
- Collaborate with parents/carers, support staff, external agencies and employers to ensure effective support and meaningful progression opportunities for students.
- Experience working with individuals with SEND, including students with learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health needs and communication difficulties.
- Strong understanding of preparation for adulthood, employability pathways and inclusive teaching practices.
- Good IT and digital skills, with the ability to use educational technology and digital platforms to support teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build positive professional relationships with students and colleagues.
- A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting learners with diverse needs.
- A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. Candidates without a qualification will be expected to work towards obtaining one during employment.
Salary: Hourly rate will be dependent on the teaching qualification currently held. The College reserves the right to fill this vacancy ahead of the closing date if a suitable candidate is found. Only applications made via the college website will be considered.
