Visiting Medical Officer in Orthopaedic Surgery โ Tamworth โ Joint Public and Private appointment. Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital and Tamara Private Hospital have partnered to offer a dynamic, newly refreshed Visiting Medical Officer in Orthopaedic Surgery package that delivers a seamless public and private appointment. This dual-sector role provides flexibility, professional support, and genuine career satisfaction across both public and private hospitals from the start.
Locations
Tamworth Hospital is the major referral hospital serving the New England North West region of NSW, covering a population of approximately 175,000. With 348 treatment spaces, it is the largest healthcare facility in NSW outside Sydney, Wollongong, and Newcastle. Tamara Private Hospital is a leading 45-bed regional facility located in Tamworth, NSW, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and a diverse surgical workload.

- Tamworth Hospital โ 8-theatre operating complex equipped with the latest anaesthetic technology and evidence-based practices
- Tamara Private Hospital โ 4 modern operating theatres including 2 Stryker iSuites and 1 dedicated Endoscopy Suite / Procedural room
- Cutting-edge technologies including DaVinci and ROSAยฎ robotic surgical systems
- Private practice support for 6 months, consulting suite onsite and strategic marketing to drive referrals
Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities span both public and private settings and include:
- Management of regional trauma (TRRH is a Level 3 regional trauma service)
- Broad case load, subspecialty practice, emergency theatre lists, weekly theatre list, and on-call coverage as required
- Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
- Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and on-call including clinical handover, supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD
- Education and research as determined and required by HNELHD
Qualifications and Requirements
- A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) and/or overseas trained pathways
- Evidence of being a medical expert with recent and comprehensive experience in Orthopaedic Surgery
- Evidence of scholarship with continued professional development and ability to assist other staff including trainees
- Evidence of being a skilled communicator (oral and written) with patients, students, health professionals and the public
- Evidence of being a collaborator within an interdisciplinary framework
- Evidence of being a manager with leadership or management experience and involvement in safety and quality improvement
- Evidence of being a professional with ongoing professional development and clinical governance
- Evidence of being an advocate contributing to improving health
Remuneration and Hours
Remuneration: As per Award. Hours per Week: Negotiable.
