This is a critical role that sets the strategic direction for asset management within the organisation and has leadership over the organisation's AM Risk, Performance and Assurance Frameworks, to ensure our water supply assets are managed in a way that provides reliable provision of service to our customers over the long term. The role leads 2 teams of strategic planners and risk & performance analysts.

The AMS team are responsible for developing our Asset Management Strategy, will lead the transformation in AM Maturity and ensure the organisation is fit for ISO55000 certification in 2027, which requires significant senior level influencing, engagement and delivery of training across all directorates. The AM Risk & Performance team provides asset & risk intelligence to support asset management decision making and investment strategy, through understanding criticality, performance trends, & Deterioration modelling. The team will also own the asset risk framework, aligning it to the Corporate Risk Register and ensuring consistency of risk management across the 3 Regions.

The System & Performance Manager is a core member of AMSG, and also holds the key relationship externally with Ofwat's AM function.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Day to day leadership of 2 teams of 5 AM Strategists & Performance analysts. Leading the AM Transformation required to achieve ISO55000 and embedding the cultural change within the business. Accountability for the AM Office - providing insight to enable AMSG decision making. Core Member of AMSG - bringing both assessment of AM Maturity & also risk & performance intelligence to the board.
  • Delivery Accountability: Responsible for the delivery of AM Strategy and ISO55000 compliant AM System, ensuring processes and capabilities are in place to deliver our AM Objectives. Ownership of the Asset Risk Management Framework, aligning it to our corporate risk register and ensuring consistency across the 3 regions with appropriate escalation routes for key risks via AMSG. This is a critical input for both operational and investment decision making. Ownership of AM Performance Framework, analysing trends in condition, deterioration and other metrics to be able to articulate current and predicted performance of our water supply assets. Ownership of the AM Assurance framework, ensuring our AM processes are fit for purpose and being adhered to across the organisation to deliver a consistent and efficient approach to our asset lifecycle activities.
  • Engagement & Relationship Management: Lead our external AM relationship with Ofwat - vital to ensure our AM Maturity (including health metrics) & ISO55000 compliance develops in alignment with Ofwat's expectations & requirements. Lead relationships with other internal departments at Head of Business and Manager level, especially with Regulation & Strategy to ensure ongoing alignment with corporate direction. Maintain close relationship and engagement with Water Supply managers in the understanding of current asset related risks, issues and performance trends, to ensure that decisions made regarding current & future investment are grounded in operational requirements.

You'll need:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering, Water Management, Science or Risk Management) or possessing equivalent professional accreditation and significant vocational experience.
  • Professional certification in Asset Management (e.g., IAM Certificate/Diploma) is highly desirable to demonstrate a commitment to industry best practice.
  • Expertise in Asset Management principles, standards, and best practices (e.g., ISO 55000).
  • Proven ability to translate complex business strategies into AM system requirements across the whole AM lifecycle.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills across all levels of the organisation, capable of building consensus and driving cultural change for AM system adoption.
  • Skilled at translating asset risk & performance data into insights and articulating at a senior level to enable better long term decision making.
  • Understanding of process level audit & assurance, to ensure the organisation remains compliant, efficient and consistent in its approach to delivering AM activities.
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing Asset Management Systems (AMS) in a regulated utility or infrastructure-based organisation.
  • Experience of implementing and/or maintaining ISO55000 certification within an infrastructure organisation.
  • Proven ability to develop Asset Health Metrics and assess performance trends.
  • Expert in infrastructure Risk Management, understanding the inputs, assessment and proposed mitigations.
  • Preferable experience of operating at a senior level within a water infrastructure organisation.
