The Portfolio Data and Reporting Lead owns the critical question 'What does this all mean?', translating complex project data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders across South East Water. As part of the central PMO hub supporting a £1 billion Capital Programme, you will act as the 'data guardian', ensuring integrity and consistency while breaking down information silos between business functions to provide a single source of truth. Accountable for reporting where we are winning and where we have opportunities to improve, providing actionable insights that drive performance levels and aid decision making up to Board level.
You are the primary interface for transforming raw data into intelligence. Without this role, the organisation would rely on fragmented data dumps rather than intuitive insights, hindering senior leadership's ability to make fast, strategic decisions in a highly regulated environment impacting customer’s overall experience.
Main responsibilities:
- Design and manage the PMO’s reporting framework to establish standard content, frequency, and audiences for all reports.
- Gather and aggregate data from planning, controls, and risk functions to create a holistic view of portfolio health.
- Transform complex data sets into clear, intuitive visual dashboards (e.g., Power BI) to enable self-service access for stakeholders.
- Own the development and execution of materials for Board updates and periodic reviews.
- Implement data quality checks and processes to act as the 'data guardian' and ensure reporting accuracy and trust.
- Manage the PMO reporting calendar and communication channels to ensure the right information reaches the right people on time.
- Analyse trends and variances within data to provide actionable insights rather than simple data dumps.
- Automate data collection methods to reduce the administrative burden on project delivery teams.
- Adapt reporting structures during crisis scenarios to provide high-frequency updates to executive leadership.
You'll need:
- Relevant training in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, or Information Management.
- Professional certification in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) or equivalent portfolio of work.
- Project Management or PMO foundation certification (e.g., P3O, APM).
- Advanced data visualization and storytelling skills (specifically Power BI).
- Leadership and ability to drive continuous improvement in reporting processes.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills to interpret complex datasets.
- Proficiency in the Google platform.
- The ability to manage and influence all levels of stakeholders.
- Adaptive communication to successfully tailor complex messages to varied audiences.
- Excellent stakeholder communication for managing reporting calendars.
- Proven experience designing and managing reporting frameworks in a complex project environment.
- Significant experience aggregating data from planning, controls, and risk functions.
- Extensive operational knowledge of acting as a 'data guardian' to ensure data quality and trust.
