This dynamic, field-based position offers a unique variety each day. You will use your initiative to navigate your assigned routes, ensuring the integrity of our water supply by collecting samples from critical locations such as treatment works, service reservoirs, and directly from customer properties. Your role involves performing on-site tests, performing quality control checks, and recording precise data into our laboratory systems. You are the face of South East Water, and your ability to interact professionally with the public is essential as you explain the sampling process to customers.

We are looking for a dependable and organised individual who takes pride in the accuracy of their work and is confident using IT systems and handheld devices for data entry and navigation. You will need a valid UK driving licence as you will be responsible for a company vehicle, but no previous experience is required—your attitude and commitment to safety are what matter most.

Based at our Farnborough, Hampshire depot, you will typically start your day between 06:00 AM - 06:30 AM, finishing around 2:00 PM. Because water quality is a constant priority, you will participate in a weekend and bank holiday rota to ensure continuous compliance. Main responsibilities:

  • To collect and deliver samples (including Cryptosporidium filter changes) and record details of samples taken in accordance with the Company’s Sampling Manual and the Water Quality Regulations.
  • To organise own sampling route to ensure all samples assigned are collected in a timely manner and the samples are delivered to the laboratory or depot in time to be processed.
  • To ensure all paperwork associated with collecting samples is completed in accordance with internal procedures and this data is entered into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • To perform duties in accordance with internal policies and relating to HSQ and driving rules.
  • To perform on site tests and associated quality control checks in accordance with the Company’s Sampling Manual and the Water Quality Regulations.
  • To help identify any deficiencies in the Company’s Sampling Manual to ensure that all sampling procedures are appropriately documented and conform to any/all requirements of the Water Quality Regulations and UKAS.
  • Collect repeat samples in case of sample results failure to meet standards and urgent ad-hoc samples as necessary.
  • Responsible for the servicing and cleaning of allocated vehicle.
  • To undertake sampling at weekends in accordance with the local team agreement and in emergency as requested by the Company.

  • Confident with IT / Computers
