Summary: Do you have experience in leakage detection data and using pressure reducing valves? Are you looking for a fast-paced and rewarding role to utilise your skills? If you’re a natural problem-solver who enjoys working in a team, this could be the perfect opportunity for you to make a real impact on our water network. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing the leakage data equipment and systems that keep our network running efficiently. You will spend your days out in the field installing and repairing equipment like pressure reducing valves, data loggers, and water flow meters, or connecting new valves to our mains network. Whether you are a seasoned pro looking for a high-impact role or an aspiring specialist ready to grow with a company that invests in its people, we provide the environment and support for you to succeed. This is a hands-on field role with technical elements, so it is crucial that you have experience in leakage detection data, pressure reducing valves and a background in water distribution networks. This will allow you to maintain PRVs and similar equipment successfully, and ensure that our leakage performance remains outstanding. You will work with our data analysts to carry out checks on our DMAs (District Metered Areas). These are sections of our water distribution network that have been isolated to allow for water monitoring and leakage management. You will also be liaising with other departments in the company, such as Water Supply, Engineering and Customer Services. You have excellent communication skills and are comfortable speaking to both customers and colleagues outside of your department in order to collaborate and ensure smooth workflows.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Repair: Maintain and repair all leakage data equipment and pressure reducing valves identified by our maintenance program.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot data issues to flag areas with bad water flow and potential leaks.
  • Field Operations: Perform site surveys and replace defective data devices, district meters, and mechanisms on-site.
  • Project Collaboration: Assist with data logging for various projects that drive water efficiency, and work with other departments to conduct checks on DMAs.
  • Team & Customer Liaison: Liaise with contractors, engineering, and production staff while engaging with our customers as required.
  • Administration: Complete administrative tasks, such as inputting work onto company systems.

About you:

  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge and experience in leakage detection activities and the use of leakage detecting equipment.
  • PRV Knowledge: Experience with pressure reducing valves and valve operations.
  • Network Background: A background in water distribution networks is crucial for success in this role.
  • Licensing: A full, clean driver's licence is required as you will be travelling around our supply area in a provided work van.
  • Safety & Physicality: Ability to work in confined spaces, carry out manual handling, and manage Health and Safety for teams and contractors.
  • Professional Skills: Excellent IT skills alongside strong communication and customer service abilities.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work a 37-hour week on a shift rota (Monday to Friday) and participate in a standby rota for out-of-hours assistance.

Additional Information:

A full, clean, manual driving licence is essential, as you’ll travel across our service area supporting customers. We’ll provide a company van to help you get around. You’ll work 37 hours per week on a shift rota, with typical hours of 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday. Occasionally, you’ll be required to support operations outside of these hours.

Standby & Extra Earnings: Once fully trained, you’ll also join our out-of-hours standby rota, working on a one in nine rota basis. This ensures our customers/operations are supported around the clock and offers you a significant dip in the "extra pay" pot:

  • Standby Allowance: Average of £1,800 per annum.
  • Call-Out Pay: Additional overtime rates apply if you are called out during your standby shift.
