Wealden District Council is a forward-thinking authority with great opportunities. We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated Stock Condition Surveyor to join our Property Services Team within the Housing Department. This person will play a vital role in ensuring the Council’s housing stock meets statutory standards and complies with the Regulator for Social Housing’s Safety and Quality Standards. They will work closely with internal colleagues as well as residents, consultants, contractors, and external agencies.
The ideal candidate will be someone who can build strong working relationships, communicate effectively with tenants and stakeholders, and uphold the Council’s values, safety standards, and commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant homes across the district.
What will the role involve? The role involves undertaking comprehensive stock condition surveys of council homes to ensure all properties are inspected at least every five years in line with regulatory standards. This includes:
- Inspecting internal and external components
- Assessing condition and remaining life cycles
- Carrying out Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) assessments
- Identifying repairs and compliance issues
Key aspects of the role include:
- Planning and arranging inspections with residents
- Capturing accurate survey data supported by photographic evidence
- Updating the asset management system promptly and accurately
- Producing condition reports and identifying defects
- Liaising daily with residents, colleagues, contractors, and external partners
- Responding to enquiries and complaints relating to stock condition surveys
- Helping inform long-term investment planning and maintenance programmes
The post may involve some flexibility in working hours for occasional out-of-hours work and requires regular site visits, including climbing stairs, bending, stretching, and occasionally using ladders or scaffolding.
