Part Time | Permanent | Portsmouth | Salary: £23,157–24,326 (34 hours) / £25,201–26,473 (full-time), plus 17% shift enhancement for days. Closes 31 December 2025.
34 hours per week. Shift times: 08:00‑14:00, 14:00‑20:00, 08:00‑20:00. Alternate weekend and some bank holiday shifts. Unpaid half‑hour break for shifts over six hours. Fixed two‑week rota.
What Is The Role
Harry Sotnick House is a 46‑bed nursing home located on the ground floor and rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission. It offers a broad range of healthcare services to older people with mental and physical health needs, including long‑term dementia care. The Care Assistant will provide person‑centred care that addresses physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of service users.
Responsibilities
- Personal care, assisting with meals and all aspects of daily living.
- Promoting residents’ mental health and wellbeing through social activities.
- Recording health and wellbeing information in electronic care planning (Nourish) and communicating updates to team leaders, meeting legal requirements set by the Care Quality Commission.
- Handling diverse service users, including those with challenging behaviour.
- Performing light food preparation and person‑moving duties.
Qualifications and Skills
- Patience and empathy, understanding dementia and physical disabilities.
- Effective communication with cognitively impaired individuals; accurate spoken English essential.
- Experience in a formal paid or unpaid caring role, appreciating resident dignity, privacy and choice.
- Flexibility, adaptability, teamwork, independence, initiative, decision‑making and confidence in emergencies.
- Computer skills for updating care records and accessing e‑learning.
- Participation in training and development, progressing towards QCF Level 2/3 in Social Care and completing the Care Certificate (previously CIS) within probation.
