Eastleigh Borough Council is recruiting a Housing & Homelessness Support Officer. This is a full-time, fixed-term role for 12 months, 37 hours per week, with a salary from £26,685 per annum (Band 3).

Location: Eastleigh. Contract: Fixed term 12 months. Closing date: 1 February 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accurate, professional and timely administration of Hampshire Home Choice through all stages of customer application, renewal and bidding.
  • Support customers with relevant signposting and referrals to appropriate partner organisations.
  • Meet with customers presenting at the Council offices face to face to provide support and advice.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payments for loans, grants and placements and invoices for cost recovery, in accordance with the council’s financial standing orders.
  • Actively develop and maintain an extensive working knowledge of Council and partner services, IT systems, processes and procedures.
  • Refer to supervisor for advice and guidance.
  • Ensure all customers are treated fairly and provide support and advice based on their individual needs.
  • Proactively market the benefits of digital and self-service channels to all customers.
  • Work with other team members to organise and manage workloads effectively, ensuring that all customer and performance standards and targets are achieved.
  • Maintain up-to-date records ensuring strict confidentiality is maintained and GDPR rules followed.
  • Ensure a professional, inclusive and helpful approach to customer service.
  • Participate in training and development required to develop the range of skills and knowledge to undertake the role.
  • Train, induct and mentor new staff.

About You

You must have strong ICT skills, excellent communication skills and experience of working in a customer service environment. You will need to be a self-motivated, team player working with colleagues to organise and manage workloads effectively, ensuring that all customer and performance standards and targets are achieved. You will be required to share knowledge and skills and have a flexible, can-do attitude delivering a professional, inclusive and helpful approach to customers.

Desirable: NVQ Level 2 Customer Services. Knowledge of one or more services provided by local government.
