The Facilities Management team at Canterbury City Council is seeking a Damp and Mould Officer to lead on the identification, investigation, and resolution of damp and mould issues across our housing stock. This role supports safe, healthy homes and aligns with Awaab’s Law.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Awaab’s Law, including emergency repairs within 24 hours, formal response to tenant complaints within 14 days, and repairs initiated within 7 days of assessment.
  • Conduct Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) surveys and recommend remedial actions.
  • Liaise with tenants, contractors, and internal teams to deliver timely and effective solutions.
  • Promote awareness and provide guidance to residents on managing damp and mould.

Key qualifications:

  • Experience in building maintenance and repair, particularly within residential or social housing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of damp and mould diagnostics and remediation.
  • Ability to identify root causes of damp and mould including structural defects, plumbing issues, poor ventilation and condensation.
  • Strong communication skills, able to offer advice and explain technical issues clearly to residents and colleagues.
  • Ability to write reports and update case records accurately.
