Location: Based at South Downs Centre, Midhurst, working from the Bordon area and other locations.

Salary: £28,540 to £31,127 pro rata, pay award pending

Hours: 22.2 hours per week, working flexibly over 7 days

Type of post: Fixed-term: 6 month contract from start date (with immediate start preferable)

The Heathlands Reunited Wealden Heath Strategic Access Management and Monitoring (SAMM) project is a South Downs National Park Authority initiative that provides a range of mitigation measures to partner local authorities. The aim of the initiative is to promote sustainable and responsible use of designated sites and, in doing so, protect the vulnerable habitats and the species that depend on them.

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Public Engagement Ranger to join the team and support the delivery of a package of events and access management monitoring solutions for heathland sites during ground nesting bird season. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated candidate with good communication and personal skills who can work collaboratively within a mutually supportive project team. Experience of public engagement and conservation will be an advantage.

The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of a package of community engagement & monitoring solutions for heathland sites. This includes:

  • a programme of public and community engagement activities and events.
  • a schedule of site monitoring patrols & surveys.
  • a plan of access improvements.

Role Scope:

  • Flexibility to cover out-of-hours duties at weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
  • There is potential for work patterns to be adapted to fit lifestyle commitments within agreed core hours.
  • Travel to sites at irregular hours for short visits.
  • Ability to travel throughout the project locations and to Midhurst is essential.

This part-time seasonal position would suit a student or graduate looking to gain experience in the sector, or someone with relevant experience looking to take their first steps in a career in conservation.
