We require from September 2026 a talented teacher of English. As Lead of English and Literacy, you will drive excellence across the curriculum, champion reading and literacy, and inspire students for careers in engineering and healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of teaching your subject(s) and curriculum developments.
- Plan tutorials, activities, lessons, and sequences to meet students’ individual learning needs.
- Use appropriate strategies and follow UTC policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management.
- Engage parents and agencies to promote students’ health, safety and achievement.
- Assess, monitor and record progress of students and provide clear constructive feedback.
- Set well‑grounded expectations and aim for progress nationally.
- Manage own professional development and apply outcomes to improve learning.
- Contribute to year‑group, curriculum team and UTC plans.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree and Qualified Teacher Status.
- Successful experience teaching the subject in placement or a previous UTC.
- Teaching and curriculum experience with GCSE.
- Ability to teach subject to GCSE and use assessment for learning.
- High level ICT skills.
- Inspirational practitioner who enthuses and engages students.
- Excellent understanding of the curriculum and current developments.
- Positive attitude to professional development.
- Willingness to contribute to the curriculum team and wider UTC community.
- Adaptable, flexible, take responsibility, show initiative, command respect, and work well in teams.
Desirable
- Experience teaching at A Level.
- Experience of teaching in UTC or similar setting.
- Enhanced digital literacy.
