We are looking for a practical, organised and technically confident Systems Project Officer to help deliver systems and digital process improvement projects across South Devon College. Working with IT Services, the systems development team and operational departments, you will help colleagues move from an initial need or problem through to a well-tested, well-documented and sustainable solution. This is a varied role for someone who enjoys combining project coordination with hands-on systems, SQL and data activity. You will gather requirements, map processes, coordinate delivery, support testing and implementation, and make sure improvements are adopted effectively into everyday use.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate systems projects from discovery to handover, ensuring work is well planned, smoothly delivered and creates clear benefits for colleagues and learners.
  • Work with departments to understand processes, pain points and improvement opportunities, shaping solutions that make work simpler, clearer and more effective.
  • Support solution design, configuration, testing and implementation, helping ensure changes are reliable, usable and ready for live use.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries, reports and data extracts that improve insight, support decisions and reduce manual workarounds.
  • Use Microsoft platform tools, including Power Automate, SSIS and SSMS, to streamline processes, improve data flows and support consistent ways of working.
  • Support user-interface improvements in third-party systems, including EBS, so colleagues can access information and complete tasks more easily.
  • Create clear project records, guidance, handover notes and communications that help people understand, adopt and sustain changes.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience supporting systems, data, reporting or digital improvement projects, with an understanding of how well-managed change improves services and reduces duplication.
  • Confidence coordinating project activity, capturing requirements, tracking actions and supporting implementation to keep teams organised and focused on useful outcomes.
  • Practical SQL experience for reporting, analysis or system development, turning data into reliable outputs that support decision-making.
  • The ability to translate between technical colleagues and service users, turning operational needs into clear requirements and practical solutions.
  • A proactive, collaborative and organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining momentum and attention to detail.
  • A curious, user-focused mindset and commitment to practical, sustainable improvements that make systems easier to use.

Why this role matters:

You will help connect people, processes, systems and data, ensuring that improvement projects deliver clear benefits, reduce friction and become embedded in everyday College practice.

Interested? If you enjoy solving problems, improving services and helping people get more from technology, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please apply through the College’s recruitment process, showing how your experience, approach and skills would help you succeed in this role.

Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
