We are looking to recruit a practising Counsellor to join our lecturing team at South Devon College. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Social Science, Counselling and Childhood Studies department, supporting learners across our counselling provision from Level 2 to Level 6. As a Lecturer in Counselling, you will deliver high-quality teaching, tutorials and assessment, helping learners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress within the counselling profession. You may also support learners through group supervision and one-to-one guidance, creating a positive, inclusive and student-centred learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver scheduled teaching, tutorials and learner assessments across counselling programmes.
  • Manage, plan and review learning programmes, develop resources, contribute to quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with awarding body regulations and standards.
  • Assess learner work, conduct learner reviews, support students’ pastoral and welfare needs, and contribute to admissions, course meetings and learner-related administration.
  • Maintain your own professional practice and development, build effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners, and act as an ambassador for South Devon College.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Level 4 qualification or degree in Counselling.
  • Be a qualified, accredited counsellor registered with a counselling body such as the NCPS or BACP, or be able to obtain registration where appropriate.
  • Have experience as a practising counsellor, either through employment or private practice.
  • Bring strong subject knowledge, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to motivate and support learners from a range of backgrounds.
  • Be able to teach creatively, adapt to the needs of different students, manage workloads effectively and contribute positively to the development of the curriculum area.
