About the Role

We are seeking a proactive, organised and safety‑focused Caretaker – Fleet and Driver Compliance to join our Estates and Facilities Team.

This is a varied operational role combining fleet coordination, driver compliance, caretaking, security, maintenance and customer service across College sites.

You will play a key part in keeping our vehicles, buildings and grounds safe, compliant and ready for use.

The role requires strong attention to detail, confidence in applying procedures, and the ability to work independently while supporting a busy, responsive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Fleet & Driver Compliance
• Coordinate day‑to‑day fleet bookings, driving duties and vehicle use.
• Carry out vehicle checks, testing, valeting and minor repairs, escalating issues where required.
• Maintain accurate compliance records, deadlines and safety documentation.
• Deliver minibus familiarisation and in‑house Minibus Lite training (training provided if needed).
• Monitor driver behaviour using Quartix and produce monthly reports.
• Arrange MOTs, tax, insurance, servicing and repairs, ensuring vehicles remain safe and legally compliant.
• Health, Safety & Emergency Response
• Support fire safety arrangements, including programming and monitoring fire alarm systems and participating in the Fire Incident Team.
• Act as a trained Fire Marshal and emergency first aider (training provided).
• Complete risk assessments, identify hazards and apply safe working practices.
• Contribute to incident management, business continuity and emergency response procedures.
• Caretaking, Maintenance & Estates Support
• Complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks, resolving minor issues or escalating where specialist support is required.
• Provide porterage support, including office moves, deliveries, post handling and movement of goods.
• Assist with grounds, parking, traffic control and external area duties.
• Support extreme weather preparations, including gritting when required.
• Security & Site Operations
• Maintain vehicle CCTV and tracking systems, reporting faults or compliance concerns.
• Unlock, lock and alarm buildings, responding to and escalating security issues appropriately.
• Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for staff, students and visitors.
• What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Experience in estates, facilities, caretaking, fleet, transport or operational compliance.
• Good understanding of vehicle and driver compliance processes.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and maintain accurate records.
• Confident communicator with a customer‑focused approach.
• Competent IT skills for recording checks, updating jobs and producing basic reports.
• Flexible, solutions‑focused and able to work independently.
• Ability to travel across College sites and work agreed shift patterns (between 05:45 and 22:30, Monday–Saturday).
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Basic Health & Safety Certificate.
• Minibus training certification (Mi DAS).
• Trade background or maintenance qualification.
• IPAF / PASMA certification.
• Additional Requirements
• Commitment to safeguarding, Prevent duty and promoting British values.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role safely, using training and equipment provided.
• Professional presentation and consistent use of uniform and PPE.
• Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
