This is an exciting opportunity to join South Derbyshire District Council in a Principal Officer role. You will lead the Private Sector Housing Team and drive forward improvements, implementing the Renters Rights Act and ensuring homes are safe and healthy to live in for our residents.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supporting the Private Sector Housing Team and developing procedures, policies and service improvements
- Inspecting private sector properties to assess housing conditions and identify hazards using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and taking appropriate action to remedy hazards
- Licensing Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)
- Providing technical advice and ensuring consistent, lawful decision-making
- Working with residents, landlords, colleagues and partners to achieve positive outcomes
About You
You will bring substantial experience in regulatory housing enforcement together with a commitment to improving standards for residents. We are looking for someone with Qualified Environmental Health Practitioner status (CEnvH) and housing experience, or a relevant degree in Building and Construction, Construction Management, Surveying with significant experience in Private Sector Housing enforcement regulation.
Knowledge and experience of the Housing Act 2004, the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), and local authorities’ regulatory and enforcement powers in relation to HMOs and private sector housing conditions are essential.
