South Coast Nursing Homes is an established and successful, family owned and managed, care home company based in Worthing, West Sussex.
We currently operate 9 homes across East and West Sussex.
Each registered home offers the highest standards of resident care and comfort, 24 hours – day and night, for long and short-term stays.
Reporting to the Head of Estates and Health and Safety, this role involves working with an experienced maintenance team carrying out planned, reactive as well as ad‑hoc project work.
The team is committed to providing professional, respectful and quality care within a safe home environment.
This is a hands‑on role and appropriate experience and relevant qualifications will be of paramount importance as is the commitment to provide a first‑class service to all of our customers, the residents.
- Hour s: - 40hrs p/w - Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm, with on call rota
- Job responsibilities
- Support in the daily management and co‑ordination of an experienced maintenance team to include, training. Driving efficiency and productivity across a multi‑site operation
- Perform routine inspections of the home to identify maintenance needs.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance tasks related to plumbing, gardening, painting, flooring (LVT), carpentry, electrical, heating and ventilation.
- Repair / replace faulty equipment promptly and efficiently.
- Address any issues related to lighting, fixtures and fittings.
- Ensure all communal areas, hallways, lobbies, stairways and pathways are well maintained and safe free from obstructions.
- Minimise down time from equipment failure.
- Extend product life and quality by maintaining parts such as TMVs & TRVs that get the most use.
- Flexibility to work in a variety of homes conditions and environments
- Support in the Management of a small team of gardeners to maintain the gardens of each home to a high standard throughout each season and recommending to the directors’ schemes, changes and investment in each of the home’s gardens
- Support in the Management of the out of hours rota for maintenance emergency call out and be part of the maintenance emergency team on a periodic basis.
- Make regular visits to each of the homes to inspect work carried out and quality of the work done by the team
Skills, qualifications and knowledge
- Previous trades experience in either plumbing and heating, joinery, electrical skills or a combination of the above
- 3-5 years’ experience in a similar multi‑site role
- Experience of managing, mentoring, training and appraising a small, skilled maintenance team.
- A clean driving licence is required to enable frequent visiting of each of the homes in the group

We are looking for someone who is
- An ability to think on your feet and under pressure when dealing with multiple tasks
- Good communication skills and the ability to get on with people but be able to act with confidence when dealing with staff, residents, managers, directors and contractors
- Some IT skills such as Excel, Word, MS Office etc. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential
- A problem solver and solution provider as well as being a quick learner
- Has high professional and moral standards
