South Coast Nursing Homes is an established and successful, family owned and managed, care home company based in Worthing, West Sussex. We currently operate 9 homes across East and West Sussex, with 414 beds having recently opened a brand-new Home in Central Worthing, named The Poets. Each registered home offers the highest standards of resident care and comfort, 24 hours – day and night, for long and short-term stays.

This is a brand new and exciting opportunity arising due to the retirement of our current company Finance Director. The position reports directly into the Managing Director and is responsible for all financial systems and processes for SCNH, ensuring any risks are identified and mitigated. This role involves financial planning, budgeting, report writing, and providing strategic and commercial insight for the Board of Directors, assisting with effective, high-quality decision-making that represents both value for money and aligns with the values upheld by SCNH.

Being a relatively small team of four, the role will require a hands-on approach to managing the department – a training and nurturing style will be necessary to develop others in their roles. You will be accountable for payroll, purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, and all management accounting. The business spans across East and West Sussex and includes other properties owned by the company, so familiarity with a group structure and multi-site operations is essential.

You must be a qualified accountant, with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, and be familiar with core financial software packages, possessing good to advanced Excel skills (with the ability to produce effective financial reports for the Board of Directors). You will work closely with the Directors in providing financial insight, counsel, and trend analysis – offering solutions to issues suggested by various trends identified through the data. Additionally, you will provide management information for the Directors when formulating business plans and decisions regarding new systems, annual pay reviews, and new processes.

Skills, qualifications, and knowledge

  • A qualified accountant – CIMA / ACA / ACCA
  • Recent and relevant operational and strategic financial management experience at a senior level with a minimum of 5 years PQE
  • At least 5 years proven experience managing individuals, including setting and monitoring of goals and objectives
  • Experience in setting and updating financial controls, reviewing processes and procedures, and developing financial systems
  • Experience of preparing and presenting financial accounts and information at SLT and Board level, with the ability to relay complex financial information to all levels of understanding within the organisation when required
  • Experience of budgeting and forecasting at both operational and strategic levels
  • Strong communicator / relationship building skills to engage and gain trust across other departments within SCNH
  • An ability to identify opportunities for innovation – keeping our business moving forwards; sustainability; cost saving; efficiency

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Hands-on in your approach with a can-do attitude, able to work on your own initiative
  • A real problem solver, who will immediately add value to SCNH
  • Able to think on your feet and under pressure when dealing with multiple tasks
  • Time management and organisation will be key attributes
  • Good communication skills and the ability to get on with people, acting as an ambassador for our company values and fitting in with the culture

What is in it for you…

  • Up to £75K remuneration package, depending on experience
  • 25 Days paid Holiday + Bank Holidays
  • Contributory company pension scheme
  • EAP - employee assistance program
  • Future opportunity to join the board of Directors for the right individual
