Salaried GP - Maternity Cover in Bournemouth

South Coast Medical Group is looking to recruit a motivated and patient-focused Salaried GP for 6 sessions per week, based at Denmark Road Medical Centre (DRMC), on a 9-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. The required working days are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, forward-thinking and award-winning Primary Care Network serving more than 55,000 patients across Bournemouth.

You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, pharmacists, frailty clinicians and administrative colleagues, with a strong emphasis on collaborative working, continuity of care and high clinical standards. Main duties of the job

• The post holder will provide the full range of general medical services expected within primary care, managing a varied caseload and assessing patients with both acute and long-term conditions.
• The role will include face-to-face and telephone consultations, clinical decision-making, prescribing, reviewing investigations, referrals, occasional home visits and management of associated clinical administration.
• You will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, contribute to safe and effective patient care, and support continuity across the practice.
• The post may also include participation in Duty Doctor responsibilities and clinical meetings, in line with the needs of the service.

Job responsibilities

• The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.
• They must act within professional boundaries and provide the highest quality of holistic care for all patients.
• A successful candidate will be working alongside a friendly, hardworking team of general practitioners, nursing colleagues, admin and reception staff in the care of practice patients.
• The post-holder will need to ensure they are readily available to work alongside the Practice timetable, undertaking a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries.
• Effectively manage paperwork and correspondence which need to be completed within a timely fashion.
• Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
• Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
• Providing counselling and health education.
• Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
• Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
• Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
• Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
• In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

• Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
