Purpose of the position: This role is critical to expanding the reach of SCMP’s flagship youth publications—Young Post, Young Post Spark, and Posties—within schools across mainland China. The ideal candidate will shape and execute our China business development strategy, drive market education, build local networks, and navigate school regulatory environments to unlock growth opportunities.
In this role, you will:
- Build China School Penetration Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to increase the presence of SCMP youth publications in mainland China schools. Navigate local school regulatory environments, identify key decision-makers, and establish connections with educational authorities. Map and prioritize target schools and regions for optimal market entry and expansion.
- Develop Sales Plan & Reseller Management: Design and implement effective sales plans to achieve subscription and revenue targets for youth publications. Recruit, train, and manage resellers and channel partners to maximize school reach and sales performance. Monitor and support reseller activities to ensure alignment with SCMP’s goals and standards.
- Educate the Market, Develop Teacher Training & Build Thought Leadership: Drive market education initiatives to raise awareness of SCMP Learn’s offerings among schools, educators, and parents. Lead the development and delivery of teacher training programs, focusing on best practices in English learning for both DSE and international curriculums. Represent SCMP Learn as a thought leader in English language education through seminars, workshops, and strategic partnerships.
- Collect First-Hand Information & Feedback for Product Improvement: Establish channels to gather direct feedback from students, teachers, and schools regarding SCMP Learn’s products and services. Analyze market needs, user experience, and competitor activities to provide actionable insights for continuous product and service enhancement. Collaborate closely with product and editorial teams to ensure offerings remain relevant and impactful.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the education sector in mainland China, with a proven track record of working directly with schools and managing channel partnerships.
- Extensive network and deep understanding of the mainland China school system and regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful market penetration and sales strategies.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Experience in teacher professional development and/or education thought leadership is highly desirable.
- Work location will be in Mainland China (Shenzhen or Guangzhou preferred).
