South Ayrshire Council provides a wide range of employability opportunities for people in South Ayrshire in order to support them in gaining experience, training and employment. This programme is part of the council’s youth employability initiative. We are committed to offering career development opportunities for young people within South Ayrshire and to comply with the conditions of funding from skills development Scotland, applicants must fall into the following categories before the start date of 21st July 2025:

  • 19 years of age or under
  • 29 years of age or under and be a care experienced young person
  • 29 years of age or under and have additional support needs

The assessment centre and interviews will take place on 10 June 2025 at the Citadel in Ayr. You can apply for up to 2 posts:

  • Post A – Gym Attendant (Citadel, Ayr X2)

    You will be responsible for assisting and supporting members of staff within the gym. You will gain experience delivering inductions to new gym members and when qualified you will be delivering a variety of fitness classes such as spin, evolve & circuits. Cleaning the facility for use and providing excellent customer service are top priorities when employed within the gym area.

  • Post B – Leisure Attendant (Maybole)

    You will work towards your NPLQ Lifeguard qualification and be responsible for assisting and supporting members of staff with supervising the pool side. Pool side maintenance, cleaning the facility for use and providing excellent customer service. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside the swim team, providing assistance to swim coaches and working towards your swim teacher’s qualification.

This post is considered to be Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) (PVG) Act 2007. Accordingly, the preferred candidate will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if already a Scheme member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made. If you wish further information on the PVG Scheme you can visit the Disclosure Scotland website at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk. Please note you may be required to meet PVG costs.

This post is temporary until 20/07/2026. The grade of this post is Modern Apprentice.

Rates of Pay:

  • For candidates under 18, the rate of pay will be £7.55
  • For candidates aged 18 - 20, the rate of pay will be £10.00
  • For candidates aged 21 and over, the rate of pay will be £12.21

The work style for this post is Frontline worker.
