Woodsley & Holt Park Primary Care Network (PCN) are looking for candidates who are passionate about providing health services. This role will be responsible for supporting practices across the PCN and to work at locations within the community to provide clinical services. The areas covered by Woodsley and Holt Park are: Horsforth, Burley, Kirkstall, Headingley, Woodhouse.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of practice nurses and in accordance with specific PCN guidelines and protocols. The post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP or nurse or following strict protocols for certain conditions. Following additional training, the role will include completing NHS Health Checks, blood pressure readings and ECGs. This role requires previous phlebotomy experience; further training to complete NHS Health checks, blood pressure readings and ECGs will be given to the successful candidate.
Job responsibilities
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
- Collection of blood samples in accordance with training and procedures.
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible.
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
- Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues.
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.
- Restock consulting rooms.
- Do health promotion or health education work.
- Meet DBS standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
- Enhanced DBS check (completed upon employment).
- Full UK driving license.
- Current CPR certificate.
- Completion of The Care Certificate or other Healthcare Qualification.
- Hepatitis B immunity evidence.
Experience
- Organised and efficient in record keeping and completion of paperwork.
- Time management being able to prioritise work and work under pressure.
- Previous experience of working in Primary Care.
- Previous phlebotomy experience.
