We are seeking to appoint 3 Security Guards. Closing Date for applications is: 14th June 2026. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 24th June 2026.

Aims of Job/Job Purpose

South and City College Estates is a team-based structure, which includes site services, security and site maintenance functions. Its overall aim is to provide a support service, which assists all staff in ensuring a safe, welcoming and healthy environment promoting quality teaching and learning for our students. Security cover is provided from 05:30 hours - 22:00 hours Monday to Thursday, 05:30 hours - 18:00 hours on Friday. There are also additional events outside of these hours. South and City College is committed to its duty to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

Working closely with the front of house support team, you will be multi-skilled and highly flexible undertaking a variety of security and reception duties, as required, to ensure the smooth running of the College.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Be flexible, able and willing to travel, sometimes at short notice, to ensure that service levels are maintained at any College site.
  • Provide security cover in order to protect the College's property or staff from theft, threat, damage or injury.
  • Provide a quality security service, greeting and directing visitors, contractors, students and staff, and adhering to all safeguarding measures including verification of contractors enhanced DBS.
  • Work closely and liaise with all employees of the College to ensure that all receive a positive experience of support.
  • In the receptionist's absence resume communication duties to ensure that standards are sustained.
  • Be responsible for patrolling the college's premises internal and external, reporting and where appropriate, dealing with security issues, e.g. escorting unwelcome visitors off premises, monitoring entrances and exits in person, checking toilets and CCTV where fitted, patrolling corridors and securing unlocked IT rooms, checking for propped open doors, monitoring and enforcing no-smoking/vaping areas, undertaking ID checks on students to verify that a student is registered etc.
  • Maintain a daily logbook.
  • Record and issue keys.
  • Record items lost and found.
  • Carry out the weekly tests as required to maintain legislative compliance.
  • Report health and safety issues to the relevant Duty Manager and Estates Support or Building Manager.
  • Inform the appropriate Duty Manager if police come into the building for any reason.
  • Undertake a prominent active role in ensuring no vehicles come into or leave the car parks during emergency evacuation of the building.
  • Perform the role of Fire Marshal and support the Estates Support or Building Manager in the event of an evacuation of the building.
  • Ensure all visitors to site are met by the person whom they have agreed to meet.
  • Adhere at all times to Health and Safety requirements and site specific local procedures.
  • Open, secure and lock the building and close windows if required.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean environment.
  • Report incidents and accidents in the Accident Report Book.
  • Be expected to undertake first aid training and duties.
  • Undertake any training or updating necessary in your field.
  • Be an ambassador in equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the nature and grade of the post as required by the college.
  • You will work as a member of the team, ensuring that it provides a quality service across the College Estate. This may require you to work at any of the other sites.
  • The College is also open 7 days a week and in the evening, therefore evening and weekend work may be required, as and when necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

The successful applicant will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks including enhanced DBS, prohibition check, childcare disqualification (where applicable), qualifications (where applicable), medical fitness, identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide a minimum of two suitable references covering a 5-year period. An online search will also be carried out as part of our due diligence on all shortlisted candidates. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016), therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
