We are recruiting an experienced Rents Finance Officer to join Moat's Accounting Services team on a temporary rolling contract. The successful candidate will maintain the rent accounting system, ensuring tenant, property and financial information remains complete, current and accurate. This is a finance-focused position requiring practical rent accounting, transaction processing and reconciliation experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process transactions and automatic payment files to tenant rent accounts accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain payment types and posting references within the housing management system.
  • Post cash-book rent items and retain appropriate supporting records.
  • Reconcile nominal ledger control accounts against transactions posted within the housing management system.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve rent-account or ledger discrepancies.
  • Raise the rent debit and reconcile postings against expected charges.
  • Process dishonoured Direct Debit adjustments and issue notifications to tenants or Income Recovery.
  • Update tenant and property accounts following tenant movements.
  • Process account changes for new properties and property disposals.
  • Support transactions involving staircasing, Social HomeBuy, Right to Buy, Right to Acquire and stock disposals.
  • Respond professionally to rent-related enquiries from tenants, colleagues and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide cover for producing sales invoices when required.
  • Index documents accurately within the document management system.
  • Maintain complete records and audit trails for transactions and adjustments.
  • Manage information in accordance with data governance requirements, legislation and organisational procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Rents Finance Officer, Rent Accounting Officer, Housing Finance Officer or in a similar role.
  • Practical experience maintaining tenant rent accounts.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience processing financial transactions accurately.
  • Experience using financial databases, ledgers or housing management systems.
  • Knowledge of cash-book postings and financial reconciliations.
  • Understanding of nominal ledger control accounts.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience using ActiveH or Active Housing.
  • Experience working within social housing, a housing association or local authority.
  • Experience raising and reconciling rent debits.
  • Experience processing dishonoured Direct Debits.
  • Knowledge of tenant movements, new properties and property disposals.
  • Exposure to staircasing, Social HomeBuy, Right to Buy or Right to Acquire transactions.
  • Experience producing sales invoices or using document management systems.

About You

You will be a numerate, organised and detail-focused rents finance professional who can work effectively within a busy accounting environment. You should be comfortable processing tenant transactions, completing reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and handling financial information accurately. Strong Excel skills are essential, while ActiveH and social housing experience would be highly advantageous.

Contract Information

This is a temporary rolling contract while Moat recruits for a permanent Rents Finance Team Leader. The rate, hours, location, working pattern and exact start date are being confirmed and will be discussed with suitable applicants before submission.
