About Sous Chef

Exceptional dishes start with extraordinary ingredients. Our small team travels, tastes and tests to uncover the very best from the world’s kitchens—from ingredients and gifts to tableware and cookware.

We’re an independent family company, inspiring home cooks and professional chefs since 2012. We look for outstanding flavour, thoughtful design and excellent craftsmanship, choosing products that give food lovers a reason to try something new.

Our ambitions are big, and every person in our team can make a visible difference to the business.

The role

Are you passionate about food and fascinated by what makes a great online experience?

We're looking for an Ecommerce Content & Merchandising Manager to make sure every product on Sous Chef is beautifully presented, easy to discover and performing at its best.

You’ll combine a love of food and cooking with experience in ecommerce, SEO and data analysis. You already work in ecommerce, where you've used data to improve the customer experience and grow sales.

You’ll take ownership of our online product catalogue, from launching exciting new products to improving the performance of existing ones. You’ll work closely with our buying, marketing and ecommerce teams, bringing together compelling content, thoughtful merchandising and commercial insight.

This is a hands‑on role with real ownership. We're looking for someone who enjoys making things happen, spots opportunities to improve how we work and takes pride in seeing the results.

Your mission

Help more food lovers discover Sous Chef

Work with our Ecommerce Manager to improve the structure and visibility of our website through SEO. Take ownership of product and collection metadata, internal linking and the ongoing improvement of our recipe and editorial content. Identify gaps and opportunities, keeping the site accurate, useful and easy to navigate for both customers and search engines.

Create an outstanding shopping experience

Make it a pleasure for customers to discover and explore our range. Own how products are presented and organised across the website, from collection pages and product recommendations to imagery, recipes and buying guides. Use customer insight and performance data to improve merchandising, help customers find the right products, and have confidence in them.

Bring brilliant new products to life

Own the online launch of new products, working with our buying team to ensure everything is ready for customers. Coordinate compelling imagery, engaging product descriptions and accurate product information, and set up products correctly in Shopify. Make sure launches happen smoothly on time and to a consistently high standard.

Use data to uncover opportunities for growth

Analyse product and category performance, including sales, margins, conversion rates and customer behaviour. Identify what's working, what's underperforming and where we could do better. Turn your findings into practical improvements to product presentation, merchandising and the customer journey – and measure their impact.

What you'll bring

A genuine love of food and cooking

You love discovering new ingredients, exploring different cuisines and finding inspiration for your next meal. You understand what makes a product exciting to a keen cook, and can put yourself in our customers' shoes. You're as interested in how someone might use a product as you are in how it's presented.

Ecommerce experience and commercial curiosity

You have at least two years' experience in ecommerce, with a good understanding of SEO and how an online store works. You're comfortable working with data, investigating performance and using what you learn to recommend improvements. You understand that great content should help customers make decisions and ultimately drive sales.

An organised mind and a sharp eye for detail

You can manage multiple projects and product launches without losing track of the details. You enjoy creating clear processes, keeping information accurate and making sure work gets finished to a high standard.

Independent, resourceful and driven to improve

You take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. You're comfortable finding answers independently, asking good questions and challenging the way things have always been done. You notice opportunities to make things better and have the initiative and determination to follow them through.

Useful, but not essential

  • Experience using Shopify, particularly product setup, collections and merchandising.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Ahrefs or other ecommerce analytics and SEO tools.
  • Experience managing a large product catalogue, ideally in food, homeware or another consumer retail business.
  • Experience creating or managing product content, imagery, recipes or buying guides.

Why join Sous Chef?

If you love food and want to combine that enthusiasm with your ecommerce skills, this is an opportunity to make a real difference. You'll help shape how customers discover and experience thousands of extraordinary products, working with people who share your enthusiasm for food and cooking. We're a small, ambitious team, where your ideas will be heard and you'll have the freedom to make improvements and see the results of your work.
