Location: White Rock, Cloverdale, Newton, Guildford, North Surrey

Hours: 30 hours/week; M-F; hours vary; permanent part-time

Reporting to: Youth Services Manager: Taylor Goble

Salary: $27.81

We are looking for a Child & Youth Mental Health Worker to join our Mental Health Child and Youth Outreach team! Ideally, this individual must be able to work well independently, be a great team player, have a passion for working with young people, and have a good understanding of both trauma informed and strength-based approaches.

Description of Position:

This program receives referrals from the MCFD Child and Youth Mental Health team to support youth to build adaptive skills and self-management. The worker will intervene with the client to support the goals as directed by the referring Mental Health Clinician. Activities include, but are not limited to, socialization, symptom reduction and skill development. Integrated case management required. The Child & Youth Mental Health worker requires an ability to enable children/youth (ages 6 to 18) to engage in positive and developmentally appropriate activities with peers and in the community. Requires the ability to provide activity-based interventions including one-to-one work or group work focusing on skill building and/or support stabilizing in the community. The Worker will network with and prepare written reports and/or required documentation for the MCFD Mental Health Clinicians. Transporting clients in own vehicle also required. The Worker must demonstrate an ability and willingness to initiate contact with difficult to serve youth. The work is outreach in nature, requires shift flexibility and is provided across several communities including White Rock, North Surrey, Cloverdale, Guilford, and Newton.

General Responsibilities:

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain records, write session notes, and complete monthly reports.
• This is an outreach position which requires a flexible schedule.
• Complete various program related administration tasks.
• Ability to professionally liaise with community partners.

Program-specific Responsibilities:

• Working knowledge of mental health concerns, including common diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance abuse and eating disorders.
• Training and ability to work from a trauma informed, harm reduction perspective an asset.
• Training in Indigenous Cultural Safety an asset (Training may be accessed through Sources).
• Ability to work in collaboration and professionally with CYMH/MCFD staff.
• Provides and engages in age-appropriate mental health activities for youth.
• Develops goals in collaboration with clients and CYMH clinician to address mental health needs.

Qualifications:

• Possess an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care, Psychology or related.
• Experience working with youth dealing with any of the following: behavioral concerns, mental health challenges, family challenges, substance use.
• Use of a vehicle that is safe and passes inspection.
• Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and central data systems.
• Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English.
• Current Food Safe certificate (Training may be accessed through Sources).
• Standard First Aid and CPR (Training may be accessed through Sources).
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (Training may be accessed through Sources).
• Criminal Records check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and driver's abstract.
