Location: Lilac Place, Surrey, BC

Hours: 32 hours per week

Salary: $27.81 - $31.42 per hour

We are looking for a Youth Worker to join our Sources Lilac Place team! This individual must be a great team player, have an eye for detail and administrative organization, and have a good understanding of trauma informed, harm reduction, and strength-based approaches.

Sources Lilac Place

Lilac Place is a unique, part-time therapeutic residential program that assists families in developing upon their inherent strengths and increasing their overall connection, with the goal of decreasing conflict, and improving the overall wellness of the family unit. The Youth worker assists in this process through intentional one-to-one support with youth and caregiver(s), providing case management, and connecting with services in community to provide wrap-around support, as a way to work towards positive changes in the family.

Description of Position:

The Youth Worker at Lilac Place is responsible for the day-to-day activities in the residential program, planning and facilitating pre-intake/after-care outreach, and maintaining the residences’ ability to provide therapeutic services to youth and caregivers. These activities include supporting youth in carrying out their daily routines, including connection to school/community resources, planning and facilitating recreational and social-emotional learning activities, implementing and supporting therapeutic activities, report writing, prioritizing the physical and emotional safety of program participants, providing weekend support on rotation, and regular communication with caregivers. Youth Workers will follow the emotion-focused therapeutic guidance of the family therapist to support implementation of communication and relationship strengthening strategies being worked on in therapy sessions. The Youth Worker will also liaise with various community resources including social workers, schools and other supports that are part of the family’s care team. Additionally, the youth worker will maintain files, and engage in other administrative duties when required.

Reporting to: Youth Services Manager

General Responsibilities

  • Participates in planning, organizing and implementing daily routines and supports youth in engaging in their day-to-day activities (i.e. school, work, appointments)
  • Plans and participates in developmentally appropriate social emotional learning activities and recreational activities that support pro-social engagement in the community, along with life-skills based programming
  • Administers prescribed medications to youth as per doctors and pharmacists instruction, while following all required medication administration policies and procedures
  • Provides care to youth and families through a trauma-informed, emotions-focused, and harm reduction lens
  • Provides weekend support to families, on a rotating basis
  • Ensures the rights, dignity and confidentiality of all clients are maintained
  • Provides case management, which includes: case planning, daily logs, session notes, the preparation of relevant reports, facilitating the scheduling of meetings with the family and their care team, liaising with the broader care team, attending Intensive Case Management meetings and Family Care Planning Conferences
  • Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of the physical environment
  • Participates in programming quality improvement and evaluation processes implemented by the Director and/or Program Manager
  • Takes an active part in the staff team through participation in staff meetings, team days, and other activities that promote a positive working environment
  • Ensures the Sources Policies and Procedures are followed as well as the operating procedures of Lilac Place

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in psychology or related discipline or a diploma/certificate in related studies preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with at-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age
  • Residential program experience an asset
  • Knowledge in and ability to practice trauma informed, harm reduction, attachment based and culturally safe approaches with youth and caregivers
  • Working knowledge of mental health challenges commonly experienced by youth and families, including diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, FASD, substance misuse, OCD, and personality disorders
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to effectively use work specific computer platforms for case management, documentation, and reporting; includes: Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Must possess the following: valid BC driver’s license, current first aid (training provided), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate (training provided)
  • Must be able to participate in (occasionally physically demanding) recreational activities
  • Excellent references
  • Criminal record check is required
