We are seeking an experienced and driven Area Sales Engineer to maintain and grow sales within the manufacturing sector. This role suits a self-starter with a strong technical understanding of metal cutting and machining processes, particularly within aerospace, oil & gas, and automotive environments. The successful candidate will ideally be based in the South West of the UK and will be responsible for implementing sales strategies, generating new business, and building long-term customer relationships across their territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track, analyse, and report on sales performance, ensuring targets are met or exceeded
  • Maintain and expand business with existing key accounts, particularly within cutting tools and machining environments
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to grow the customer base
  • Prepare quotations and follow up on offers through to conversion
  • Work closely with internal teams to respond effectively to customer needs and technical requirements
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive market penetration within the assigned territory
  • Represent the business at trade fairs, exhibitions, and industry events

Candidate Requirements

  • Time-served engineer background, ideally with experience in aerospace, oil & gas, or automotive manufacturing
  • Strong technical understanding of metal cutting and machining processes
  • Previous experience in a sales or customer-facing technical role
  • Resourceful, with strong problem-solving and commercial awareness
  • Confident using IT systems and software for sales activity, reporting, and CRM
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable building relationships and engaging with customers at all levels
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a territory
  • Confident in presenting information to individuals and groups
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel as required
