SourceCo Recruitment are seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join a leading time-critical logistics business based near Birmingham Airport. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established organisation specialising in European logistics and supply chain solutions. You'll play a key role in leading the UK Customs & Brokerage operation, driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance, developing high-performing teams, and delivering exceptional customer service across a fast-paced 24/7 operation.

The Role: As the Operations Manager Customs & Brokerage, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of customs, brokerage, transit and non-transport operations across the UK. You'll lead operational performance, ensure compliance with UK customs legislation, develop your team, and drive continuous improvement while building strong relationships with customers, partners and internal stakeholders.

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum Car Allowance of up to £6,000 per annum

Working Hours: Monday to Friday Hybrid Working Available Flexibility required to support a 24/7 operation when necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the daily operation of customs, brokerage, transit and non-transport services, ensuring exceptional service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching, support and leadership to drive engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK customs regulations, import/export legislation and company procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, supporting new business implementations and operational growth.
  • Monitor operational performance through KPIs and reporting, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, embracing automation, technology and process optimisation across the department.
  • Proactively manage operational risks and resolve complex issues quickly and effectively.
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, audits and operational reviews across the UK and Europe when required.

What We're Looking For: We are seeking an experienced customs and logistics professional who enjoys leading teams, improving operational performance and delivering outstanding customer service within a fast-paced freight environment.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of three years' experience managing customs brokerage operations.
  • Previous experience within freight forwarding, logistics or supply chain operations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK customs procedures, import/export regulations and transit processes.
  • Experience leading and developing operational teams.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and customer service skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient using customs software, TMS platforms and Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Experience:

  • Industry qualification in Logistics, Customs, International Trade or a related discipline.
  • Experience implementing operational improvements and automation projects.
  • Experience supporting customer implementations and business growth initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe when required.
