Job Description
Our client is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Management Accountant to join our finance team within a growing subscription-based business.
This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for delivering accurate and timely management information, supporting month-end reporting and providing financial insight to help the business make informed commercial decisions. Working in a business with recurring subscription revenue, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of revenue recognition, deferred income, billing cycles and the importance of maintaining accurate financial data.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
Take ownership of the month-end close process, ensuring all reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and journals are completed accurately.
Manage and reconcile subscription revenue, including recurring income, upgrades, cancellations, refunds and credits.
Monitor and report on deferred and accrued revenue, ensuring revenue is recognised correctly in line with accounting principles.
Analyse monthly recurring revenue (MRR), annual recurring revenue (ARR), customer churn and revenue trends.
Prepare regular management reports and provide meaningful commentary on financial performance against budget and forecast.
Assist with the preparation and monitoring of budgets, forecasts and financial plans.
Produce detailed analysis of income, expenditure, margins and key business performance indicators.
Investigate variances and provide clear explanations and recommendations to senior management.
Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and ensure outstanding items are investigated and resolved promptly.
Support the Finance Manager / Financial Controller with cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
Work closely with the billing, sales and commercial teams to ensure subscription data and financial records are accurate.
Review customer accounts and investigate discrepancies between billing systems and the finance system.
Assist with year-end accounts, audit requirements and statutory reporting.
Support improvements to financial processes, systems and controls as the business continues to grow.
Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by the senior management team.
About You
We are looking for someone who is analytical, commercially aware and confident working with large volumes of financial data.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience working as a Management Accountant or in a similar commercial finance role.
Strong month-end and management accounting experience.
Experience working within a subscription, SaaS, membership or recurring-revenue business would be highly advantageous.
Good understanding of revenue recognition, deferred income and subscription billing.
Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and data analysis.
Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to financial reporting.
The ability to analyse financial information and explain findings clearly to non-finance colleagues.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to work independently, manage deadlines and prioritise workload.
A commercially focused mindset with the ability to look beyond the numbers and identify trends and opportunities.
Qualifications
Ideally AAT qualified with progression towards ACCA/CIMA, or fully/part-qualified ACCA/CIMA.
Qualified-by-experience candidates with strong relevant management accounting experience will also be considered.
