Role overview
We are seeking a Network and Voice Engineer to design, support and enhance resilient enterprise networks and unified communications within a regulated financial services environment. You will ensure high availability, performance, security and service quality across LAN/WAN, data centre connectivity, cloud networking and voice platforms, working closely with infrastructure, security and service management teams.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain routing and switching, including VLANs, STP, QoS, OSPF/BGP and high-availability patterns.
- Support WAN and remote connectivity (MPLS/SD-WAN, VPN, IPSec/SSL), optimising performance and resilience.
- Administer network security controls such as firewalls, NAC (e.g., 802.1X), segmentation and secure network access.
- Engineer voice and unified communications solutions (SIP, VoIP, SBCs, call routing, dial plans, IVR), ensuring call quality and reliability.
- Manage incident, problem and change processes, including root cause analysis, post-incident reviews and preventative improvements.
- Monitor and troubleshoot using tooling (e.g., SNMP/NetFlow, Wireshark), producing clear documentation and runbooks.
- Collaborate on DR/BCP testing, capacity planning, and platform lifecycle/patching aligned to risk and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to automation and configuration management where appropriate (e.g., scripting, templates, infrastructure as code).
Required skills and experience
- Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise networks in a high-availability, low-latency environment.
- Expertise with Cisco and/or Juniper routing and switching; solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and network services.
- Proven experience with voice technologies: SIP, RTP, codecs, QoS for voice, and enterprise telephony/UC platforms.
- Experience with firewalls and network security principles; familiarity with IDS/IPS and secure access patterns.
- Exposure to cloud networking (Azure/AWS), including VNET/VPC, routing, VPN/ExpressRoute/Direct Connect concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting capability and ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., financial services), with awareness of audit, change control and risk management.
Qualifications
- Relevant certifications such as CCNP (Enterprise/Collaboration) or JNCIP; equivalent experience considered.
- ITIL knowledge or experience working within ITIL-aligned service management.
