Linux Platform Engineering
- Design, document, deploy, and manage Ubuntu-based Linux infrastructure (LTS releases) across physical, virtual, and private cloud environments.
- Own the full Linux server lifecycle: provisioning, configuration management, patching, hardening, and decommissioning.
- Develop and maintain golden images, cloud-init templates, and standardised build processes for repeatable deployments.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and root-cause analysis on Linux systems under production load.
- Implement and maintain automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and shell/Python scripting.
- Translate system, software, and operational requirements into scalable, resilient Linux infrastructure designs.
Apache CloudStack & Virtualisation
- Design, deploy, and operate Apache CloudStack environments including management servers, zones, pods, clusters, and primary/secondary storage.
- Manage KVM hypervisors underpinning CloudStack, including host onboarding, networking (bridges, VLANs, VXLANs), and live migration.
- Build and maintain CloudStack service offerings, templates, ISOs, and network offerings aligned with internal and customer requirements.
- Integrate CloudStack with storage backends (NFS, Ceph, or similar) and with monitoring, backup, and identity systems.
- Troubleshoot complex CloudStack issues across the management, hypervisor, networking, and storage layers.
Operations & Support
- Implement and maintain monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery solutions for Linux and CloudStack workloads.
- Ensure infrastructure security compliance and implement best practices for system hardening (CIS benchmarks, AppArmor/SELinux, auditd, patch management).
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to Linux, virtualisation, and data centre environments and provide Level 3 support.
- Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning across the Linux estate.
- Conduct data centre assessments, site visits, and infrastructure reviews.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical infrastructure support.
