Source BioScience Limited is an international provider of integrated state of the art Laboratory Services and Products.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. The role requires shift work, with core working hours between 9.00 am and midnight.
We are seeking a scientist who, ideally, will have some laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques, and an eye for detail. The successful candidate may be a recent graduate or may have acquired appropriate experience within a laboratory and will understand the principles of confidentiality and data protection.
You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including:
- Extracting DNA
- Processing DNA samples for sequencing
- Data analysis
- Participation in other research projects
Candidates will also be expected to cover within other departments within the facility when required. Applicants should possess good interpersonal skills, practice meticulous record keeping and be conscientious and reliable in their approach to work. DNA sequencing, genotyping/gene expression and robotics experience would be an advantage, as would any experience of working in a service orientated industry.
The overall objective is to deliver, either with single responsibility, or in shared projects, services from the portfolio to customers of Source BioScience. Data is to be delivered promptly, within agreed KPIs, in approved formats whilst keeping meticulously maintained records using LIMS and paper-based formats as appropriate. The post holder will be expected to perform data analysis and undertake general laboratory maintenance and routine tasks including preparation of buffers and reagents, lab tidying etc. The post-holder will be expected to maintain quality standards.
Duties include:
- Perform and adhere to SOP when undertaking laboratory tasks in support of project progression, working independently or in conjunction with other team members.
- Observe and report problems encountered with possible hardware failure or sample related issues.
- Teamwork – balancing the different demands and priorities placed upon them by the other members of the group and customers.
- Working to deadlines and making effective use of the time and resources available.
- Reply to routine enquiries from customers via telephone, email etc and provide technical support to the commercial department.
- Excellent communication skills are required to communicate with colleagues and management, and report to customers in a professional and succinct manner.
- Meticulous nature with a high degree of accuracy is required.
- Self-motivated with a proven good attendance record.
- Respect the confidentiality of all matters that may be learned relating to employment and other members of staff.
- Dress and act in a professional manner as per Company Policy.
- Comply with all quality control procedures to support maintenance of the Source BioScience’s Quality Management System.
- Comply with safe working practices in accordance with Company safety policies.
- Participate in the Annual Joint Staff Review process, in accordance with Company Policy.
- Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with grade and experience.
- Attend any training endeavours as appropriate to role or as reasonably requested by Line Manager.
